Yarrow Cove MoversRemovals & crating
Labelled cardboard cartons stacked against the wall of an emptied room on moving day

Yarrow Cove · Marrowfield · Thistle Island

Your whole house, carried in one planned run.

We survey the access first, crate what needs crating, and move households and small offices across the cove, the islands and the inland valley on a written scope you approve before the van is booked.

  • CrewTeams of three to five, with the same lead crew from survey to final walk-through.
  • Access firstStairs, lane widths, lift bookings and quay timings are checked before we price the job.
  • Written scopeEvery quote lists the rooms, the packing included and the hours it is built around.

Move lanes

Four ways we work, priced on what the job actually needs

Most enquiries land in one of these lanes. Read across to see the crew, the vehicle and the work that is included before you ask us for a number, so the quote you receive matches the day you were picturing.

Move lanes compared by crew, vehicle, included work and notice

Not sure which lane fits? Describe the rooms in the quote form and we will tell you which one we would plan for, and why.

Describe your move

How it runs

Five stages, from the first look to the last box

Nothing on moving day should be a surprise. This is the order we work in for every lane, and the point at which each decision is yours to make.

  1. 01

    Access survey

We walk both properties, or review a video walk-through if you are moving from further afield, and note stair turns, doorway widths, parking restrictions and anything that needs dismantling.

  2. 02

    Written scope and quote

You receive an itemised scope: rooms, packing level, crew size, vehicle, the hours it is built around and the rate if the day runs long. Nothing is added later without your say-so.

  3. 03

    Packing week

Cartons and tape arrive ahead of the date. If you have booked packing, we work room by room in the order you will unpack, and we photograph the back of every wired appliance before it is disconnected.

  4. 04

    Load, travel, unload

The lead mover keeps the inventory list and calls the loading order. Fragile and long items travel braced against the bulkhead; boxes are stacked by destination room, not by size.

  5. 05

    Placement and walk-through

Beds are rebuilt and boxes are set down in the rooms marked on the labels. We walk the empty van and both properties with you, and take away the flat-packed cartons on a later date you choose.

Packing & protection

What we wrap, what we crate, and what we ask you to keep

Packing standards are the part of a quote that is easiest to hide. Ours are written down, so you can compare them against anyone else you are speaking to.

  • Soft furnishings

Sofas and armchairs are wrapped in quilted blankets, then stretch-wrapped at the base only, so the fabric is never sealed against moisture for the length of the journey.

  • Case goods and timber

Corners are protected with card edging under the blankets. Drawers travel closed and empty; glass shelves come out and go into a dedicated glass carton with card dividers.

  • Framed art, mirrors and screens

Anything flat and breakable over roughly a metre gets a made-to-size cardboard crate. Televisions travel upright in a foam-lined carton, never flat under other items.

  • Kitchen and glassware

Cell dividers for stemware, paper wrap for plates stacked on edge rather than flat, and a clearly marked first-night carton with the kettle, mugs and a knife you will actually want.

  • Beds and wardrobes

Fixings go into a labelled bag taped to the frame, not into a communal tool box. Hanging clothes move straight into wardrobe cartons and straight back onto the rail at the other end.

  • Carry with you, not on the van

Passports and paperwork, jewellery, medication, chargers, house keys and anything irreplaceable. We will tell you this again the day before, and we would rather repeat it than assume.

Cove routes

Local access notes we plan around

The cove is not a grid. These are the constraints that decide your start time, your vehicle and occasionally your date — worth reading before you set a completion day.

Thistle Island sailings

Vehicle space on the morning and early-afternoon sailings is limited and booked well ahead. Island moves are loaded the previous evening and held overnight so we make the first crossing.

Harbour district lanes

Several lanes above the quay will not take a 7.5-tonne van. We shuttle with a smaller vehicle from a holding point, which adds time to the day and is priced into the quote, not added after.

Quay-side loading windows

Loading bays near the fish market clear later in the morning. For addresses in that stretch we usually start at the destination end and load the outbound property afterwards.

Stair carries and no-lift buildings

Above the third floor without a lift we add a mover rather than extend the day. Tell us the flight count and whether the turns are open or boxed and we will size the crew correctly.

Marrowfield valley farm tracks

Unsurfaced tracks and low branches are fine in dry weather and a problem after heavy rain. We keep a wet-weather plan for valley addresses and confirm it forty-eight hours ahead.

Winter light

From November we start earlier so the unload finishes in daylight. If your date is fixed and late in the day, we will say so plainly and suggest a two-vehicle approach instead.

Moving day

How a two-bedroom move is usually timed

A realistic shape for a same-district family move with packing already done. Your scope will list your own times; this is the rhythm they are built from.

  1. Crew arrival and walk-round

Floor runners and banister padding go down before anything is carried. We confirm which items are staying and mark them.

  2. Dismantling and first load

Beds and table legs come apart, fixings are bagged and taped to their frames, and the heavy case goods go on first.

  3. Cartons and fragiles

Boxes load by destination room. Art crates and glass cartons are braced last so they come off the van first.

  4. Final sweep and travel

Cupboards, loft hatch, shed and garden are checked with you, then the van leaves with the inventory list signed.

  5. Unload and placement

Protection goes down at the new address first. Furniture is placed to your plan; we would rather move a wardrobe twice than guess.

  6. Rebuild and walk-through

Beds rebuilt, appliances reconnected where safe to do so, empty van shown, and a date agreed for carton collection.

Questions

What people ask us before booking

Answers we give on the phone most weeks. If yours is not here, add it to the notes field in the quote form and we will answer it in writing with your scope.

What can't go on the van?
Fuels, gas canisters, fireworks, paint thinners, aerosols under pressure and anything corrosive stay behind, along with open food and liquids that can spill onto textiles. We will also ask you to carry passports, medication, jewellery and keys yourself.
How is cover for our belongings arranged?
Your scope sets out the standard cover included with the move and the higher-value option, with the excess and the exclusions written in plain sentences. We ask you to list anything unusually valuable at survey stage so it is named rather than assumed.
What happens if it rains heavily?
We still move. Doorway canopies, floor runners and extra wrapping come out, and soft furnishings load between the rain rather than through it, which can add an hour. Only unsurfaced valley tracks and island sailings genuinely force a change of date, and we would tell you two days ahead.
Can you take plants, aquariums and pets?
Potted plants travel last on and first off, unwrapped and upright. Aquariums move empty, with fish transported by you in bagged water. Pets should not travel on the van — the calmest arrangement is a friend's house or a quiet room at the new address with the door shut and marked.
Do we need to be there all day?
Someone who can make decisions should be present for the first half hour and for both walk-throughs. Between those points you are free to come and go, as long as we can reach you for questions about placement.
What if our completion date slips?
Tell us as soon as your solicitor does. Moving a date more than seven days out is usually straightforward; inside that window it depends on the crew already committed. If you are left without keys on the day, the split-date lane loads you out and holds the contents in sealed transit until the new date.
What does "held in transit" actually mean?
Your contents stay palletised and sealed in the vehicle or in a locked bay, against the inventory list you signed at load-out, and nothing is unpacked or re-handled in between. It is designed for gaps of a few days, not for long-term keeping.

Tell us about the move and we will price it properly

The more you can say about rooms, floors and access, the closer the first figure will be to the final one. We reply with either a written quote or the two questions we still need answered.

We quote from what is actually there, not from a per-room average. That means we may come back to you once before sending a number.

  • 01We read your enquiry and check the date against the crew calendar.
  • 02We arrange an access survey, in person or by video walk-through.
  • 03You receive the itemised scope, the packing level and the hourly position if the day runs long.
  • 04Nothing is booked until you confirm the scope in writing.
